- Portland Community College is entertaining the idea of providing
- dial-up access to the Internet to our student population. I have been
- asked to size (and price) the necessary h/w and personnel to support
- the following scenarios:
-
- 1000 Users
- 2000 Users
- 5000 Users
- 10000 Users
-
- I am planning on using a ratio of 14 users per modem and expect that
- we will need anywhere from 72 to 720 v.34 modems. We will be using
- multiple T1 lines and want to insure that we have the necessary
- management and security software to TRY to maintain control over these
- lines. We currently are using US Robotics Total Control modems (but
- not for PPP/SLIP).
-
- A couple of questions:
- - How does this ratio look?
- - Is anyone managing a similar number of dial-in lines (advice please)
- - Is anyone using this same technology?
-
- Any other PROVEN/RELIABLE Solutions?
-
- email (sthompso@pcc.edu) or voice (503-977-4390) is preferable as I
- never get a chance to read News (despite continuing efforts to work it
- into my day)
-
- Much Thanks....
